One-on-one physical therapy for persistent low back pain. We figure out which movements you have started to guard against, rebuild them step by step, and check for signs that need a medical work-up.
Many people believe bad posture causes back pain. The research does not show that. What we do see, very consistently, is a guarded movement pattern: the back stays stiff, muscles stay switched on even when they should relax, and everyday moves — bending, lifting, sitting — get done in slow motion.
That protection made sense when the pain started. But staying in protection mode keeps the back sensitive and the muscles tired, which keeps the pain going. Recovery usually looks like this: your back moves faster, further, and more relaxed as it learns that moving is safe again.
One more thing worth knowing: scans often show disc bulges or worn discs in people with no pain at all. A finding on a scan does not decide your treatment — your symptoms and movement do.
There is no single bad posture that causes back pain. What matters more is how much you move, and whether you have stopped trusting your back.
Recovery comes from gradually re-doing the movements you have been avoiding — not from weeks of rest or waiting to be pain-free first.
Guarded, tense muscles can generate pain on their own. As movement becomes relaxed and confident again, pain often follows.
The first group of signs can point to an inflammatory condition that needs medical care — we will sort that out with you honestly. The second group needs urgent medical attention.
Education plus graded movement is the foundation — everything else supports those two.
We find out which movements you guard — bending, lifting, sitting, standing — and measure how your back actually moves: speed, range, and how tense the muscles stay.
We explain why your back became protective and why guarding keeps it sensitive. Understanding the 'why' is often what unlocks the first change.
Bending and lifting come back as experiments, not tests. Each step is small, planned, and checked — so your back learns safety through experience.
Your trunk and hips get progressively stronger so everyday loads stop being a threat. Programs build toward the life and work you actually do.
We take a careful history for inflammatory back pain. If the pattern points that way, we coordinate with your physician for imaging and rheumatology input.
You leave with a plan you can run yourself: what to do on good days, what to do on flare days, and how to keep the gains after discharge.
