One-on-one physical therapy for sciatica and radiating leg pain. We find what is irritating the nerve, calm it down, and rebuild your strength — step by step.
Sciatica means pain that travels along the sciatic nerve — from your lower back or buttock down the leg, sometimes all the way to the foot. It happens when a nerve root in the lower spine becomes irritated or sensitive.
The most common causes are a bulging or herniated disc touching the nerve, age-related narrowing around the nerve (spinal stenosis), or irritation where the nerve passes through the deep hip muscles. The treatment depends on which cause — and which movements — apply to you. That is what a proper evaluation is for.
Here is the part most people never hear: an irritated nerve is not the same as a damaged nerve. Nerves become sensitive, much like a sprained ankle becomes tender. With the right amount of movement and a graded plan, that sensitivity can settle — and most episodes of sciatica improve without surgery.
How much it hurts does not tell you how much harm there is. Severe leg pain often comes from a highly sensitive — but healthy — nerve.
Disc bulges are extremely common on MRI — including in people with no pain at all. A scan finding alone does not decide your treatment.
Bed rest usually slows recovery. Staying active and loading the nerve gradually is one of the best-supported parts of sciatica care.
These are uncommon, but they need same-day medical attention — not physical therapy first.
No generic handout. Your program is based on what your evaluation shows — and it changes as you improve.
We take a detailed history and check your strength, reflexes, sensation, and how your symptoms respond to specific movements. This tells us which nerve is involved and what is driving it.
Most people with sciatica have movements or positions that ease the leg pain and ones that stir it up. We find yours and build the plan around them — this is often the fastest route to relief.
Gentle nerve mobility work and graded exercise help a sensitive nerve settle. Then we load it progressively so it tolerates sitting, walking, training, and work again.
Targeted strengthening for the back, hips, and legs — with clear criteria for progressing, so you know exactly where you stand and what comes next.
Manual therapy can ease symptoms in the short term and make exercise easier. We use it as a support for your active program, not a substitute for it.
You will understand what is happening in your back, what to expect week to week, and which activities to keep, modify, or pause. If your case needs imaging or a specialist, we will tell you directly.
